Villiers was named after Lourens de Villiers. The town was laid out in
1882
on parts of the farms, Grootdraai and Pearson Valley (belonging to De
Villiers)
and became a municipality in 1917.
Stonehouse, one of the oldest houses still in
existence in the town, was built in 1911.
It was turned into a 4-star guesthouse in 2005 by the current owner.
